Setting Up Their Habitat
Start with floor space, then 20 cm of bedding, a silent wheel, two hideouts and a sand bath. Enrichment comes before decoration.
Feeding & Nutrition
Scatter a balanced seed mix rather than bowl-feeding, add fresh greens sparingly, and keep sugary treats rare.
Daily Care
Check water, spot-clean soiled corners, and handle gently in the evening when hamsters naturally wake up.
Choosing your hamster
Syrians are larger, calmer and live alone — the best choice if you want to hold your hamster. Winter Whites and Roborovskis are faster and far happier being watched than handled. Whichever you pick, always house them solo unless we tell you otherwise.
Setting up their habitat
Aim for at least 80 × 50 cm of unbroken floor space for dwarfs and 100 × 50 cm for Syrians. Fill 20 cm of the base with paper or aspen bedding so they can dig real tunnels, then add a silent wheel, two hideouts with separate exits, a sand bath and plenty of chews.
Feeding & nutrition
Scatter a balanced seed and grain mix across the bedding instead of using a bowl — foraging is most of a hamster's natural day. Add small amounts of fresh vegetables a few times a week, and keep dried fruit away from dwarf breeds entirely.
Daily care
Refresh water daily, spot-clean the toilet corner, and do a full bedding change only every three to four weeks so their scent stays familiar. Handle in the evening when they naturally wake, always low over a soft surface.
Signs of a healthy hamster
Clear bright eyes, a dry nose, smooth fur, steady weight and a clean rear. Wet tail, laboured breathing or sudden stillness need a small-animal vet the same day — message us and we will help you find one.
